Case Study :- Marketing Executive For Global Leader In Household, Health And Personal Care Products
The Situation
A momentous merger between two of the world's leading players in household cleaning and health and personal care products in 1999 created a truly global company with a world class portfolio of leading brands. As a result of the breadth of the two companies' combined geographic coverage, the new merged entity is represented in almost every major market in the world, covering 180 countries.
This client is focusing its business on five growing categories in household cleaning and health and personal care. Most net revenues in these core categories are in brands that are either number one or two in their respective markets.
The Search
The marketing director was promoted internally, creating the company's need for an experienced successor. As a result of our many years of solid business relations with this client, Ray & Berndtson was entrusted with the search.
The marketing director reports directly to the general manager, leading about 35 people directly and indirectly. He/she is in charge of all marketing-related responsibilities for four countries -- Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Netherlands -- as well as for all product areas sold by the client in these countries.
The director of human resources for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Netherlands gave us the relevant information on the position to be filled as well as on the ideal candidate. Immediately following this meeting, we proceeded to brief the research team at Ray & Berndtson and to contact candidates that fit the required profile.
The Successful Results
After a short period of time, four individuals stood out as top candidates from the pool reviewed by the client's marketing managers. Respective confidential reports on these four candidates were sent to the director of human resources. Upon close scrutiny of the documents, appointments were made at once with the company's CEO for an initial presentation of the candidates. In this presentation, the top candidate was apparent. Additional talks followed in rapid succession. After a few days of consideration, the top candidate was offered and accepted the position of marketing director.
